Itinerary:

"REI believes that being outside makes our lives better. That's why this Black Friday, we're closing all 143 of our stores and paying our employees to head outside." ~Jerry Stritzke, President, CEO of REI.  #OptOutside

Let's join Jerry and his staff. We'll opt outside on Black Friday with a jaunt around Island Ford. It's one of my favorite branches of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area. We can enjoy the soothing melody of the wind in the trees as we watch the river roll. We can give thanks that we are not vying for that lone parking spot at the mall, or jostling amongst the crowds in the mile-long checkout line.

We will meet at the Park Headquarters parking lot, then venture north along the Chattahoochee River before turning west along Summerbrook Creek.  We will continue stepping through the woods and over a couple of bridges until we reach the newer section of the trail.  We will loop around the newer section, circling back to glimpse the river before proceeding back over the bridges again.  We will backtrack just a short distance before branching off along Beech Creek.  For the final section of the hike we will meander along the river, then stop at a scenic vantage point.

Before we end our hike, we will pause for a brief, easy guided meditation to fully savor the beauty and joy of nature. (You can #optout of the meditation part if you wish).  :-)

Estimated distance for this hike is approximately 6 miles. Note this is not a beginner hike; we will take a few water breaks but keep a steady pace up and down the hills to get a good workout.
