Itinerary:

Start off your new year right, instead of sitting at home eating lollipops, join me for a moderate to fast paced hike. We will start at The Park Office formerly the Lodge & Restaurant at Red Top Mountain State Park. From there we will follow the yellow blazes for a 3.5 mile loop which is also referred to as the lollipop. But wait...we are not done yet after completing the top portion of the lollipop we will turn back and hike it in the reverse direction, for a total of 7 miles. These loops follow along the shores of Lake Allatoona for a good bit and through forest for the rest. This hike offers the widest diversity and nicest scenery of all the trails at redtop.

We will be moving at a 3.0 to 3.5 MPH average pace (20 minutes or less per mile).

All cars must have a Georgia State Park annual pass or pay $5 at the parking lot.  If you prefer not driving alone all the way to the trailhead, feel free to join us at 12:30 PM for carpooling at the “Busbee Park & Ride” near I-75 Exit #271.  It’s about 15 miles south of the I-75 Park exit - see directions to that convenient free lot below.  This has the extra advantage of allowing you to avoid paying the entire $5 parking fee yourself if you don’t have a pass.  Many of our AOC hiker/drivers do have the DNR’s annual parking pass.
