easy Black Rock Mountain State Park, named for its sheer cliffs of dark-colored biotite gneiss, encompasses some of the most outstanding country in Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Located astride the Eastern Continental Divide at an altitude of 3,640 feet, Black Rock Mountain is the highest state park in Georgia. Numerous scenic overlooks provide spectacular 80-mile vistas of the Southern Appalachians, and several hiking trails lead visitors past wildflowers, streams, small waterfalls and lush forests making it one of the best state parks for the outdoors minded not only in the state but in the nation. We’ll be camping in Camp Tsatu-gi Pioneer Area. The pioneer area has pit toilets, but no showers. There is one large cabin that we can congregate in if it rains. There are also 4 adirondack type shelters with 8 bunks each. For this site you may use a tent or the adirondack shelters. Friday evening we will cook out under the stars and visit around the fire. After hiking on Saturday, we will return to camp to prepare a Dutch oven meal. This is an excellent time to learn how to cook in a Dutch oven for those who’ve always longed for this skill. Sunday will be open for everyone to hike or explore the area on their own or in small groups. Here is a map of the park! | |||||||
