Itinerary:
10.9 miles total per Tim Homan (11.4 miles if you believe the Whiteblaze site) - peak to gap, to peak, to gap, etc. The small ascents/descents are 400 feet and the larger ascents/descents are over 1,000 feet. I calculated over 6,200 feet of Ascents and Descents. There's a net gain in altitude of 800 feet on this portion of the trail.

This hike is for ADVANCED HIKERS AND is not a beginner hike, and will not be like most of my leisurely paced hikes.

I need to have hiked with you and feel comfortable with your speed/endurance/mountain climbing skills, or need a reference from someone I trust who can attest to your level of fitness.

We'll put in at the start of Duncan Ridge section 2 at Ga Hwy 60 and end at Mulkey Gap at Forest Service Road #4.

Appropriately, we'll be hiking over Payne Knob and Akin Mountain. Water is limited to two or three points. For more info check out this page

Required Items to Bring:
Plenty of water, snacks, good hiking shoes, headlamp, rain gear. See the AOC hiking checklist for ideas.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Ga 400 North to north on US 19 near Dahlonega. At Stonepile Gap turn left and follow Ga Hwy 60 for 22 miles to the start of the trail head. Look for the green hiker sign. This trail head is also the beginning of Section 3 of the Benton MacKaye Trail that shares a tread way here for 4.2 miles. We'll set up a car shuttle between the trail head and the take out point at Mulky Gap and FS 4.

GPS DIRECTIONS: Try Cooper Creek Ga, or 25644 Morganton Hwy (aka Ga Hwy 60), Cooper Creek, Ga. This should get you close to the trail head at the beginning.

Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):180Mile(s)
Carpool Departure Time: 7:00 am

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $72.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
