Itinerary:
We will be hiking the entire Panther Creek Trail out and back. This is widely regarded as one of the nicest trails in GA ...it is in my top three favorites for sure (other two being Arkaquah and Mt Yonah).

The distance is approximately 11 miles round trip. This is a deceptive D5 hike because it is not that difficult just to the falls and back. However the rest of the trail includes more significant elevation change and somewhat rougher terrain. The last time we did the full trail in March, there were a couple of downed trees to navigate over and around as well as a 700ft climb on the way back. Total ascent is well over 2000 feet. So do not underestimate this trail (like I did last time). It should be about a 6 to 6.5 hr hike including breaks.

Of course we will stop at the falls for a long lunch break on the way out. Hiking poles are HIGHLY recommended for this trail because of the tricky terrain in places.

THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER HIKE. If are an intermediate hiker, you may want to challenge yourself and try this but we will be moving at a good pace (where the terrain allows) so be sure you are up for a workout as well as a beautiful hike. As with all D5 events, if I have not hiked with you before, I might be contacting you to ask about your previous hiking experiences especially if you do not have at least 3 recently posted events.

If the forecast doesn't change, it should be beautiful out this weekend and a long hike should be a great way to enjoy the cooler weather

Also note: There is a $3 parking fee at the trailhead.
