Itinerary:

IN a NUTSHELL:  Please join us on the front end of our AOC Social thisTuesday evening for an informal Tutorial and Q&A Session on the subject of "Camping, Backpacking and Hiking at Cumberland Island National Seashore."  (See easy-to-follow Directions to the Hudson Grille below + its Lat/Lon Address.)  I'll arrive early to hold a couple of adjoining tables for the group where we can order appetizers & drinks and address everyone's questions about the Island.  Stay with us for the entire informal gathering if you like (~7:00 - 8:30 PM) but feel free to arrive late or depart early if necessary.  Although this event is primarily intended for our AOC volunteers who who are already either confirmed or wait-listed for next week's 4-day Cumberland Island service trip, all AOC members and guests who can attend the Social are welcome to register below and participate in the tutorial session regardless of your current Cumberland trip status or level of interest in the Island.  Free maps and other handouts will be given out as long as our supply lasts.

ABOUT the ISLAND:  Located in the SE corner of Georgia and easily accessible via ferry from the mainland, Cumberland is truly a crown jewel of America's few remaining unspoiled coastal wilderness areas.  During the ~15 years since the Atlanta Outdoor Club was founded, this 17-mile-long barrier island with its ~50 square miles of scenic federally protected terrain has been among our favorite destinations for camping, hiking, backpacking and nature photography.
In abundance on this pristine "National Seashore" are wild horses, hundreds of species of rare native flora & fauna, sea-oat-capped sand dunes and picturesque remnants of the Island's fascinating human history.
