Itinerary:
The Stone Mountain Trail goes from downtown Atlanta, through Decatur and Clarkston, and ends at Stone Mountain Park. Technically it is a bike route, not a trail because it is an amalgam of on-road routes and paved trails like the Freedom Park trail. About 14 miles are trails and 3 miles are on-road. There are rolling hills with a couple of challenging climbs, but nothing you can't handle. The scenery is frankly unremarkable, consisting of residential homes and industrial parks. However there is a sense of adventure and you do get to see Atlanta in a fun, unique way and I think it is something every cyclist should do at least once.

We'll meet at the Carter Center at 9:00. After gearing up and doing introductions, we'll head out. Our pace will depend on the group and we'll have to gather the group at turns. Once we reach Stone Mountain there will be an optional 5-mile ride around the mountain. Our total distance will be approximately 30 miles not including the optional ride. After the ride we'll go to El Myr in Little 5 Points for delicious burritos.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: this ride includes 3 miles of on-road riding. We all know how Atlanta drivers are, so this is serious business. You must have experience riding on the road and you must also know and obey all applicable laws. That means we will ride no more than 2 abreast and we will obey all traffic signs and signals. Also you MUST be able to perform your own bike maintenance should you have any mechanical issues.

If you have any questions, feel free to email the trip leaders.
