Itinerary:

Let's get up early today to make parking easier at Stone Mountain and to take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures.  Plus, it will leave you lots of time to get your chores done during the rest of the day.

We'll take a moderate pace around Stone Mountain for this hike. It will be a great chance for folks to try out the trail around the mountain without fighting to keep up with the group.  If you can handle the distance and some short hills, give it a try! We'll follow the Cherokee Trail, also known as the Stone Mountain Loop, as it circles the mountain for a hike of about 5 miles.  Beware - -  because of the occasionally rough terrain and undulating hills, this is NOT an easy hike; at a faster pace, it would be a D3.

We'll meet at the bathroom building next to Confederate Hall (near the WEST gate to the park) and hike counter-clockwise around the mountain, starting with a walk down the railroad tracks past the Nature Center.  Then we'll head into the woods, along the lake, through the Grist Mill area, and finally through the meadow with the beautiful stone carving.  This hike will not be going up the mountain. We'll start our hike promptly at 7:30 am. Please arrive about 10 minutes early to check in, meet the other hikers, and use the restroom.

There is a $15 fee for parking in the lot inside Stone Mountain, unless you have an annual pass.

Required Items to Bring:

Fluids  (Electrolyte enchanced preferred) - - Do NOT plan to hike without plenty to drink!
