This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Join us for a day of hiking and swimming in the Cohutta Wilderness. There are several trails in the Cohuttas that lead into Jacks Falls.  We will begin our loop on the Rice Camp Trail that will take us through remote, thickly wooded hollows on the way to the falls.  This section of trail will have several wet fords across creeks.  The Rice Camp Trail will lead to Jack's River Trail and we will reach the falls at 4.7 miles.  Jack's River Falls is one of the most scenic waterfalls in Georgia and has an upper and lower swimming hole.  We plan to spend about 90 minutes at the falls to eat lunch, swim, and explore.  Next, we will continue on the Jack's River Trail for about a mile until we reach the Hickory Ridge Trail.  On the Hickory Ridge Trail we will climb up a ridgeline through pine-oak-hickory woods until we break the 3,000 foot mark and reach the East Cowpen Trail at 8.8 miles.  The remainder of the hike will be mostly downhill to the Rice Camp Trailhead at 11.2 miles.  Elevation gain for the hike is approximately 1,800 feet.

If you plan to meet near the event please be at the McDonald's Parking lot in Chatsworth, GA at 9:10 am.
