Itinerary:

This Saturday, beat the summer heat and come spend the morning hiking at Sweetwater Creek State Park. REI has an event and is setting up camp at the park.

We will start of promptly at 7:30AM when the park opens. We will cross the bridge and hike a "figure 8" on the yellow and orange trails. (Roughly 4.75 miles).

After that, we'll head down the red trail for the second leg of our hike. At the end of the red trail (1 mi), we will turn and climb up the white trail (.7 mi) back to the mill ruins, then break off left to head up Jack's hill along the green trail (.7 mi). It's a tough climb.

On top of Jack's Hill, we reconnect with the white trail and will turn right and head back to the visitor center. (1.5 mi)

We should be able to finish hiking around 11, at which point the official event ends. However, REI will have a tent setup at the park and I plan to stop there. Info on what they are doing is at the link below. You are welcome to stay or jet.

Pace will be moderate at about 20 minutes a mile. We will only be stopping for brief water breaks or to remain together as a group.

Hiking will take place even if it rains -- lightning or severe conditions will cancel the event.

This is rated a D4 becuase it is just over the distance threshold and the pace will be moderately fast.

Parking for the state park is $5 per car, unless you have a pass.
