Itinerary:
The main focus of this event is the 8.2 mile Gahuti Trail at Fort Mountain State Park. We will also hike a couple of shorter trails like the Big Rock Trail and West Overlook Trail, together about 2 miles total. The Lake Trail is 1.2 miles and very flat, so we may do that as well...depending on the time and how the group is feeling. So the total distance should be between 10 and 12 miles.

For the most part the trails are easy to moderate... however, there are some short steep climbs and descents as the trail leads through the ravines and around ridge crests. Elevation change is just about 800 feet through the entire park so there will be no long strenuous climbs. We are rating this a D4 primarily because of the length and because we will be moving at a moderate pace.

There are some very scenic overlooks from this trail with views of the Cohutta mtns to the east and well into NC to the north....should be a nice day on the trail for sure.

Note..we are not starting until about noon so we probably will not be done until the early evening. Most likely we will stay and watch the sunset from one of the overlooks not far from the road, and then head back so we do not hit the metro area until afternoon rush hour traffic has died down. So we will not be back to the Mansell P&R until around 7:00 to 7:30 pm. http://gastateparks.org/content/Georgia/parks/trail_maps/FortMountain_map.pdf
