Itinerary:
moderate with short strenuous sections

From the Marta park and ride lot we will travel about 12 miles to I-985, which bears off to the left and travel to Clayton, GA for a brief stop; and then we will travel to the trailhead, some 18 miles distant. We will have a minor, shallow creek crossing, and the 8 mile adventure in the Western Fork of the Chatooga River wilderness will start in mellow, rolling terrain and get a little tougher as we make our way down to the first waterfall, dipping area and lunchspot. The terrain gets a little tougher after this with short strenuous uphill and buttslides to two prettier waterfalls; the last a fifty foot 3 tiered beauty: all on Big Creek. Trust your fearless leader; your hard work will pay off with beautiful scenery, particularly the last two waterfalls. We will pause at all three to enjoy them, and then return to the trailhead; and those that desire will dine at Julia’s afterwards.

NOTE: this is a backcountry, bushwhacking adventure that should have you praising its beauty, well worth the effort and contains my favorite waterfall in Georgia.
