IN a NUTSHELL:  This leisurely paced "Halloween hike" in Atlanta's historic Oakland Cemetery has been specially planned to begin at the same location as our October AOC Social, and to end there just in time to enjoy that event as well.  "Tin Lizzy's Grant Park" is directly across the street from the cemetery.  We've confirmed that it's OK to leave our cars parked in that neighborhood from 2:30 PM until after dark (streetside and in the various free parking lots - see Directions & GPS Info below.)   Thanks to our AOC Director of Events for approving our expansion of the Club's usual "Urban Hike" participant limit.  We'll be on paved cemetery walkways, city sidewalks, etc. and expect to have a negligible environmental impact.

WHERE & WHEN?  We'll gather for the hike a few minutes before 2:30 PM on the "rooftop patio" of Tin Lizzy's on Memorial Drive. Convenient free parking is available per our Directions below.  After the hike we hope you'll stick around with us awhile to enjoy the Social, and if you think you can, please also register to attend that separate event, listed on our AOC home page calendar.  (BTW, if you get a "Double-Booking?" auto-email from the Club don't let that worry you!  It 's just reminding us to check to make sure we have time to do both events.)

HIKE PLAN:  The spooky trails and walkways that meander through the 165-year-old cemetery are especially appropriate to explore at this time of year.  In effect this is a gorgeous "Victorian garden" with hundreds of welll-manicured shrubs and gnarly old trees.  It will be fascinating to visit the tombs of legendary Atlantans such as Margaret Mitchell and Bobby Jones - also the poignant headstones of hundreds of Civil War soldiers who fought the nearby "Battle of Atlanta" in 1864.  To guarantee the "ghoulishness of our graveyard galivanting" let's each wear some Halloween garb during the event! :>)
Assuming that we have the time to do so, let's consider also walking down to Grant Park and exploring some of its nice trails.  It's just 1/4 mile south of Tin Lizzy's, via the Cherokee Ave. sidewalk over I-20  Any of you who prefer simply hanging out at Tin Lizzy's in lieu of this extra optional mile or so are welcome to do so until we other hikers return for the Social!
We intend this to be a Rain or Shine event, by the way!  If there are showers, etc. in the forecast simply bring an umbrella or some rain-resistant outerwear.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

DIRECTIONS from the I-20 "BOULEVARD" EXIT (This is Exit #59A, just 1 mile east of the big I-20/ I-75 Interchange in Downtown Atlanta.)

1. Get off I-20 at Exit #59A and turn northward onto "Boulevard." (If you were Eastbound on I-20 that would be a left turn atop the exit ramp over the I-20 bridge.)
2. Take Boulevard just 1/4 mile (north) to the traffic light at Memorial Drive.
3. Turn Left onto Memorial Drive, go just 0.3 mile (4 blocks) and look for "Tin Lizzy's" on your left in the row of shops just past Cherokee Ave.
4. There's free parking in front of Tin Lizzy's and behind it - also
in the Oakland Cemetery gravel lot by its entrance gate near the corner of Memorial Drive and Oakland Ave.  Also free parallel parking alongside Oakland Ave, Cherokee Ave, etc.

5.  Look for us, Charlie and Stacey, on or near Tin Lizzy's rooftop patio.  After a few minutes of introductions, etc. we'd like to depart on foot for the hike no later than about 2:40 PM.
