Itinerary:
No hiking shoes or backpack: no problem. We will hike approximately 3 miles at one Georgia most scenic parks; a definite must see if you have never been. After gathering by the Visitors Center parking lot we will hike the Appalachian Approach Trail. This is a somewhat steep hike up but definitely worth the beautiful view of the surrounding mountain tops. We will stop along the way for some unforgettable photo ops! At the top, there are restrooms as well as drink machines. However, there is no drinking fountain. After this warm up we will come to the highlight of trip, the beautiful Amicalola Falls. We will walk across the top of the falls and continue down the West Ridge staircase. This staircase, containing a total of 600 steps, along with the Base of Fall Trail will take us on a gorgeous walk right along the 729 feet of Amicalola Falls, the tallest drop east of the Mississippi River. Although it is a steep descent, every one can go at their own pace and we will likely encounter many families hiking the trail with their children. Hiking right alongside Amicalola Falls in truly one of the most spectacular sights near Atlanta. Once everyone makes it to the bottom we will gather at the Reflection Pool and rest for a few minutes. We will then hike the Mountain Laurel Trail back down to the Visitors Center.

There are very few rocky or naturally muddy spots on the trail so any type of athletic shoes should be OK. If there are heavy rains preceding the hike conditions will likely be somewhat muddy as most of the trails are dirt. Participants should bring a water bottle but packs are optional because of the relatively short overall distance.
