Come on out and join us for a first time AOC paddle on Lake Rabun in Lakemont, GA.

Lake Rabun is a twisty 835-acre reservoir with 25 miles of shoreline located in the Northeastern corner of Georgia in Rabun County. It is the third lake in a six-lake series that follows the original course of the Tallulah River.

The lakes are owned and operated by the Georgia Power Company to generate hydroelectric energy for Atlanta. At one time these lakes were the largest producers of electricity in the state of Georgia. Now, they only provide peak power supply.

Due to the large growth of Atlanta in recent years, Lake Rabun has become a second home to some of the most wealthy and politically connected individuals in the state of Georgia. Although Lake Rabun has experienced a huge housing boom due to leased lots by the Georgia Power Company, most home owners are summer weekend residents. Due to the small size of the lake and strong home owners association, and powerful board members, the lake has resisted many attempts to further commercialize and potentially damage its quaint appeal.

Our itinerary will be as follows:

9:00am	Depart Indian Trail Park & Ride (please plan to arrive by 8:45am).
10:30am	Arrive at Lake Rabun Beach Recreation Area and unload boats.
11:00am	Put-in and paddle 1.25 mi west towards the Dam for Lake Seed. Return to Recreation Area. (total of approx 2.5 mi)
12:30pm	Lunch at Recreation Area.
1:00pm	Paddle east approximately 2.25 mi. Return to Recreation Area and take-out. (total of approx 4.5 mi)
4:00pm	Depart Lake Rabun Beach Recreation Area and return to Park & Ride.

Please be flexible, if we need to adjust this itinerary as the day progresses.

This paddle is suitable for beginners, but remember that it is flat water, so consistent paddling will be required and wind conditions can effect the level of difficulty.

This is a bring your own boat (kayak or canoe) event and you must be able to obain your own equipment.

Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $64.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
