Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Early December should be a great time to enjoy a day of easy to moderately paced hiking in north Georgia. We'll first explore lovely Anna Ruby Falls and its surrounding Unicoi State Park- then continue down a 3-mile connecting trail to the very unique town of Helen, GA, a replica Bavarian village. We will first stop in Helen on the way to the Anna Falls Visitor Center to drop off one or two shuttle cars. The trail ends in Helen at Hill Park (corner of Main Street and White Strasse). The parking lot in Hill Park is at these Lat/Lon coordinates: 34.7030, -83.7318. The drop off is a quick 15 minute drive on to the park.

Once the cars are dropped off, we will drive on to the Visitor Center and we will take the Smith Creek Trail (4.8 miles, compacted soil) up to Anna Ruby Falls and then down through the park into Unicoi State Park Campground. From here we will jump onto the Helen Trail (3 miles, compacted soil) which will take us the rest of the way down into Helen.

Once in Helen we can grab a bite to eat before heading back to retrive the remaining cars from the park and driving back to Atlanta.

If you do not wish to join us to eat, please discuss with your carpool in advance. In the case of heavy rains in the forecast, the event will be rescheduled.

Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $56.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
