Itinerary:

Cherokee Trail does not go up the mountain but around the base of the mountain and very minimal elevation.  Great hike for beginners.  We will hike approximately 7 miles, take a couple very short water breaks.  Pace is just under three MPH (a moderate to faster pace) and the seven miles should take just about 2 1/2 hours.  Rated as a D3 for the distance (not elevation).

Extra - Immediately after the hike those that want to stay for the 1:00 performance of the Carillon  are welcome to join me.  We can hike an additional 1/2 mile to the Carillon or take our cars (we can decide at that time).  Those who have never heard or seen the Carillon and Miss Mabel in action are in for a real treat.

"The daily concert from our 732-bell Carillon is one of the true joys of Stone Mountain Park. The Carillon was donated by our friends at Coca-Cola after being exhibited in the 1964 World's Fair in New York City. The Park's carillon has been played by Mabel Sharp for over 30 years."

There is a parking fee of $15 per vehicle to enter the park unless you have an annual pass.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Directions from 285 East - Exit 39B for Route 78 East and follow signs for Main Entrance of Stone Mountain Park.  Pay $15 entrance fee, get map of park - the toll booth is on Jefferson Davis Drive. Go through tollbooth and the second left should be John B. Gordon Drive - follow it until it meets Robert E. Lee Boulevard and the SkyRide parking lot is directly ahead.    We will be meeting in the SkyRide parking lot - big parking lot so let's meet and park close to the main road as opposed to close to the SkyRide.  Call or text me immediately if you have any trouble finding us.
