Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

For some reason I haven't covered most of this route including Georgia's second highest point Rabun Bald. There really isn't any excuse for it so we are heading out into the woods for a quick overnight trip on this section of the Bartram trail. Other than Rabun Bald the section includes several other overlooks and waterfalls including the one seen above along the way. We will be heading from North to South which should be the easier direction and will keep a moderate pace.

This should be a good trip helping to burn off some extra calories before settling in front of a tv and cheering on the Falcon in the Superbowl Sunday night. Please note that we not be dawdling around in camp Sunday morning to make sure that we get back to Atlanta in time for the big game. My hope is to be off the trail between noon and 1 pm.

The plan is to cover just under 10 miles the first day and about 8 miles the second day. That is based off of past trip reports of the area saying that there is a campsite with water at that point. However due to not actually having done this section myself things may change. Everyone is expected to be flexible and have a good attitude. I expect everyone to leave the campsite as good or better than when we got there. No leaving trash around or throwing it into the fire pit. Additionally any fires should be kept a reasonable size and made only with dead wood off the ground that is small enough to handle and break up by hand. If it needs a saw, it is too big and should be left alone.

Due to this being a section a hike a shuttle will be necessary. We have already worked out the driving with me taking one car of up to 4 people from the carpool and meeting my friend at one of the trailheads where he will cram into our car for the roughly 30 minute shuttle. The same will happen at the end of the trip.
