This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Smithgall Woods is a 5600+ acres park near Helen. On our visit we will be hiking alongside beautiful Dukes creek for a long portion of our trip on the park's remote service road. Our trip will include a visit to two small but inspirational waterfalls and the remains of an old abandonned gold mine!

Breakdown:

Laurel Ridge Trail- starting at Visitor center - 1.6 miles

Tsalaki Trail (a ranger service road) - 2.75 miles

Cathy Ellis - 1 mile (out and back) and includes a view of Chunanee Falls (pictured). The plan is to have lunch here.

We will back track on the Tsalaki Trail (2.75 mile service road ) along the way we will hike the following 2 loops:
Martin's Mine Trail- 1 mile stroll which includes view of an abandoned gold mine and small waterfall.
Wetland Loop Trail- .5 miles

Our total mileage should be about 9.5 miles with about 900 feet of elevationgain.

We will meet at 10:15 AM at visitor center if you are meeting at the event.
