**Beginner cavers will have priority registration on this event** Frick's Cave Open House was cancelled because of concern for possible spread of White Nose Syndome, fatal to bat populations. Considering the high level of interest to go caving that weekend, I am offering an alternative beginner/intermediate trip to Tumbling Rock Cave in Alabama. The cave has a variety of historical and natural features, such as the remains of Salt-peter mining from the 1700's to 1800's, large flowstaone formations with nice coloration of translucent blues, grays, & whites, massive columns formations called the "elepahants feet", and a hallway of older formations called "totem gallery" like an image of old greek and roman ruins. Our main destination will be my favorite part of the cave: the "topless dome", a 400' high waterfall cascading from the ceiling. If there is time and energy, we will continue to the hidden "inner sanctum" room through the "rabbit hole". A small passage leads into a nicely colored large room. An additional option may bea challenging 100'+ climb up a steep muddy slope to the "pillar of fire". I will carry along a high power spotlight to illuminate the waterfall and large rooms that our helmet lights aren't able to reveal. There are 6 miles of cave and rooms to explore, and we'll explore as much as can safely in a group.

Carpool Cost: | Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $140.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
