Itinerary:

Located just inside I-285 in NW Atlanta lies one of our favorite local hiking spots with a wonderful variety of scenic trails, "West Palisades" aka the "Paces Mill" portion of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

The Rottenwood Creek, Bob Callan and Akers Mill East trails connect for a nice 6.25 miles out and back. By beginning at Paces Mill, the Rottenwood Creek trail is flat, giving your body a chance to warm up.  After the first mile, a series of steeper inclines unfold before you, steadily carrying you higher above the creek and out of the shade. The climb fizzles out into a gradual decline toward Akers Mill Drive. After 1.5 miles a trail sign notifies you of the transition to Bob Callan trail, under the Cumberland Parkway bridge. Continue on this paved path to the 2-mile point at Strayer University.  From there you follow the Akers Mill East Trail to the entrance to Cochran Shoals.  This is our midway point where we turn around and head back.

Please be prepared to arrive at 9:45am as we'll be setting off at 10:00am.  We'll meet in the center of the parking lot, near the parking pass Kiosk.  Parking is $3.00 unless you have your CRNRA Annual Parking Pass.  You can purchase the Daily Pass or the Annual Pass at the kiosk.(https://www.nps.gov/chat/ planyourvisit/fees.htm)
