This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Join me on this hike of the full length of the Fiery Gizzard Trail. Please be aware that we will be hiking on very rough terrain. Entire sections of trail are on top of 2-3 foot rocks and boulders that move under your feet. If you don't have steady feet and ankles, this probably isn't the hike for you. Some people like it, some people hate it. There are a few water crossings but usually they can be hopped. Elevation gain will be 1500-2000 feet with most of it occuring in short distances as we climb out of the gorge a few times. Our pace will be moderate and change with the trail elevation and difficulty.

After shuttling cars to our ending location (a 20-25 minute chore) we will begin on the Fiery Gizzard trail at the Grundy Forest Natural Area. The Fiery Gizzard trail meanders along a beautiful river with several waterfalls and deep greenish blue pools of water. Hemlocks and interesting rock formations are everywhere. We should see quite a few wildflowers. Eventually we will climb out of the gorge and off a spur trail to Raven's Point, an overlook where we will take our lunch break. Returning to the main trail, we will continue on the Fiery Gizzard. We will pass two new reroutes that were just completed last year. The reroutes drop down and into the gorge with impressively built rock and wooden stairs. We will pass more waterfalls (even walk behind one) and have at least one more overlook. Eventually we will arrive at Foster Falls, a 60 foot beauty. We will try to arrainge the cars so the post hike shuttle will not cost us any time.
