This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

We will meet at the Lake Winfield Scott (LWS) Recreation Area in beautiful Suches, Ga.  LWS is situated high in a mountain valley within the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest.  The recreation area includes 18-acre Lake Winfield Scott, which forms the headwaters of Cooper Creek.

We’ll hike approximately 8 miles beginning and ending our hike at the same spot.  We’ll walk through LWS recreation area to access the Jarrard Gap trail.  We’ll be heading up, up but we are not climbing Blood Mountain (therefore only a D3 hike)!  We’ll enter the Blood Mountain Wilderness area (one of Georgia’s most beautiful forests) and access the Appalachian Trail.  We’ll return via the Slaughter Creek trail and a lovely valley.  A variety of wildlife makes its home in the surrounding forest, including deer, wild turkey, grouse, songbirds (and bears).

I like to keep a pretty steady pace on fairly level sections of the trails - going up we will take it slow and easy.

Water is mandatory - we will take just a couple quick water breaks

Last time I was here bathrooms were locked - so not sure if we will have facilities.  Please plan accordingly
