Itinerary:

Mount Yonah, with its exceptional shape and open cliff face is an iconic mountain face easily recognized throughout the Northeast Georgia region. And on Sunday, we are going to experience it close up!

The hike begins at the Mount Yonah Trail Head (just off Chambers Road in Cleveland). We will ascend just under 1500 feet in roughly 2.25 miles. To get an idea of the hike, think of it like ascending almost twice the distance and elevation of the Stone Mountain walk-up trail.

This is considered a very hard D3 hike -- so be prepared to get your lungs pumping. This will not be a sprint to the top though and we will take our time making sure we stick together as a group. On the hike up we will take a couple of side trips to see the "Lower Face" and the "Boulder", which are popular rock climbing areas. Once at the top, we will take a snack/lunch break and take in some of the spectacular views and spend some time simply being thankful for our moms (since this is Mother's Day). Departing the summit, the hike retraces its steps in reverse, reaching the trailhead at 4.5 miles to complete the adventure.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $50.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

For those of you carpooling, we will make a quick pit stop on the drive up at the Ingles in Cleveland.

I will meet at the carpool. However, I will not be returning to the carpool (my mom lives close to Yonah and I will be visiting her after).
