We're going to do a short hike up to Blood Mountain to check out the shelter and water sources for an upcoming backpacking trip. It's going to be a rather short, but difficult hike. Blood Mountain is the highest peak on the Georgia AT with some good views.
We're rating this hike a D4 due to the long climb. This hike is recommended for those looking for a hard climb but not too many miles.

We'll head up to Neel's Gap and have a 0.3 mile walk to the trail from the parking area. From there it is a 2.4 mile climb to the top of Blood Mountain. Over that 2.4 miles we will go up 1336 feet of elevation. Once we get to the top we'll take a bit of a break and check out the area. Once we are ready, we'll head back for 2.4 mile descent.
Total mileage will be around 5 miles with half of it going up and then the second half going down.

From the Mansell park and ride: Take GA 400 North for about 37 miles, then turn left at S Chestatee/GA-249/GA-60/US-19 for 5.1 miles. Then turn right at GA-60/Morrison Moore Pkwy E/Pine Tree Rd/US-19. We'll then follow US-19 to Neel's Gap

The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver.
