Itinerary:

Join me as we paddle the Section II of the beautiful Chattooga River.  Made famous in the movie "Deleverance", the Chattooga forms the GA/SC border for 30+ miles before emptying into Lake Tugaloo.  We'll be paddling Section II, a very beginner friendly section.

This is a "Bring Your Own Boat" event.  No rentals will be available.  Paddling this section will require frequent, quick turns.  So, sea kayaks and some longer, less manouverable boats will not be allowed.  Acceptable boats are:  whitewater kayaks, recreational kayaks, sit on tops, and canoes.  Canoes are only OK if the pilot is experienced.  This is a very beginner friendly trip, but you will need to make quick turns.

We will put in at the Hwy 28 Boat launch and float down to Earls Ford.  The river is mostly flatwater with the occasional shoal and small ledge to negotiate.  However at mile 4, we will see our only real rapid, Class III, Big Shoals.  We'll stop heare to portage the rapid and have lunch and a swim if anyone is interested. From there, we'll continue on to the take-out at Earls Ford.  There is about a 400 yard "carry out" to get your boat from the river to the parking lot.

We will meet at the Indian Trail Park and Ride lot to arrange shuttle.  Because we will be carrying boats, It might be best to not count on riding with someone.  Unless someone has a trailer or can carry quite a few boats.  My Honda Pilot can carry 6 people, but I can only fit 2 kayaks on top.  We will do the best we can to get all boats on as few vehicles, though.  Please be a few minutes early so we can arrange shuttle.

Wearing PFD's will be required at all times while on the water.

This event will be rescheduled/cancelled in case of inclement weather or low water levels.
