Itinerary:

Please join me in exploring Powers Island/Ackers Mill/Rottenwood Creek/West Palisades (Mostly hike, partly urban (paved)

Hike will be approximately 10 miles and just about 4  hours - we may be slightly over or under on the time or mileage- we will first hike the trail at Powers Island (which is not on the island) and then we will cross bridge onto Powers Island and hike the island loop.   Then walk on the sidewalk at Interstate North Parkway for a very short distance, cross the river and then pickup the Ackers Mill East Trail which is a paved trail that runs along 285, hang a left on the Rottenwood Creek Trail (another paved trail) which will bring us into West Palisades where we will hike some of the unpaved trails down by the river.  There is a bit of elevation once we get into West Palisades but I take any hills nice and easy.  Then we head back the same way we came in.

Hike is rated a D3 - some elevation - pace will be moderate and for those of you that know my fast pace this won't be it, I'm finding that if I slow down just a bit I can go longer distances - even though I'm slowing down a bit I don't consider this a stroll.

We will meet in the Powers Island parking lot - Riveredge Lane NW Sandy Spring 30328

(CRNRA states on their website that the address is  5450 Interstate North Parkway, Sandy Spring, GA, 30328 BUT I Googled the Riveredge Lane address and I think that is more accurate)

$3.00 parking fee at the CRNRA parks - pass can be purchased at Kiosk in parking lot for $3.00 cash or if you already have the annual pass just display in your vehicle.

From 400 North or South - take 285 West - take exit 22 for NEW Northside Drive, at first light take a right (one way road) to continue on Northside Drive.  Continue straight and the road will change names to Interstate North Parkway (DO NOT get on Northside Drive NW)  take Interstate North Parkway about two miles and make a right on Riveredge Lane NW (just before you cross the river).  Don't pass it because you would have to completely loop around 285 and New Northside again - please give yourself additional driving time.
