Itinerary:

Coosa Backcountry Trail is a 12.9 mile loop if you go by the GA State Parks map, 12.4 miles per AllTrails and 13.7 miles per old AOC events (with distance from cars to trailheaad). Either way, join me for the entirety of this hike in beautiful Vogel State Park. It has been a while since I last did this hike, but I have been meaning to get back there. It is a difficult hike, but appropriate for those used to 10+ mile hikes. It has over 4000 feet of elevation gain. We will do this hike in the standard counter clockwise direction. We will take a few short breaks to make sure the group stays together, but plan a fairly steady hike at a moderate pace.

***Please note the carpool time is 7:00am and the meet time inside Vogel State Park is 8:30am.  I dont want anyone to be confused by the start time listed in the calendar view***

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Take GA 400/US 19 north to Dahlonega.

Current plan is to make a pit stop in Dahlonega at the Chick-fil-A there. It will be on your right on US 19 (pass McDonalds, then the road turns right, past Zaxby's).

Then take US 19 north to where it joins US 129 at Turners Corner (turns left).

Continue north on US 19/129 for 11 miles to Vogel State Park on the left.

Parking is $5 per vehicle.

If you are meeting at the event, we will see you in front of the visitors center.

Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):125Mile(s)

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $50.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
