This trip is for intermediate to advanced hikers. It is a good transition from intown to mountain hikes. We will go at a steady, moderate pace, with some stops. This hike is an approximately 8-9 mile loop with a vertical rise of approximately 2000 feet. The loop follows Slaughter Creek on a moderate grade to intersect the Appalachian Trail.  We will take the Appalachian trail to the summit of Blood Mountain.  We will spend some time at the top of Blood Mountain for lunch and enjoying the views.  Next, we will follow the Appalachian Trail ridgeline until we reach Jarred Gap. We will then complete the hike with an easy descent down the Jarred Gap Trail. The hike explores sheltered mountain valleys divided by an Appalachian Trail ridge walk with impressive views from the summit of Blood Mountain (the highest mountain along the Georgia section of the AT).

After the hike, we will stop for a 45 minute swim in Lake Winfield Scott.  There is a restroom and changing room available by the lake.

If you are meeting at the event, please arrive at the trailhead at 8:20AM.
