Itinerary:

PLEASE READ ALL BEFORE SIGNING UP:

This event has special permission to go over the 16 person limit because it will be split into 2 groups going opposite directions on the trails.  This is not an automatic allowance for key swaps but something that gets approved on a case-by-case basis.

This is our first key swap outside the state of Georgia!  Come join us as we cover 13.5 miles in the Smoky Mountains to Mount LeConte.  We'll have 2 carpool groups (8 each), one starting at Newfound Gap and one starting at the Alum Cave Trailhead (at PRECISELY the same time).  We'll meet in the Dining Hall on Mt LeConte for LUNCH/SNACK  (plus HIGH FIVES, CHEST BUMPS, WET WILLIES...) then we'll swap keys and continue on.  Each group will then meet back up for food (and warmth) at Kostas in Dillsboro.  We'll enjoy a meal together before trading cars again for our drive home.

We will need at least 4 drivers that can handle 3 others in their car to accomplish this.  And you must be willing for someone else to drive your car to dinner after the hike.

This is NOT a beginner hike and if you don't have any recent D5 or D6 experience we will have lots of questions for you. The Trip Leaders reserve the right to remove any member from this trip, who may not have the physical ability to keep up with the group.

Again, this hike is a D5 in the mountains - it will be strenuous - and possibly dangerous as there's always a chance of snow/ice this time of year on LeConte. We will have more than 3000 ft of elevation gain no matter which team you are on.

Your trip leaders will assign the groups.  If you only want to do this hike if you can hike with XXXX, then we don't want to hurt your feelings so maybe you shouldn't sign up.  We'll be reasonable with a request, but we don't need more drama in our lives.

IF you aren't ok with someone else driving your car and can't fit a total of 4 (including you), please don't sign up to drive the carpool.  If we have a hard time finding drivers, we may have to recruit and remove the last 1 or 2 people that sign up.  The AOC is not responsible for your car, so if you're not comfortable with someone else driving it - please don't offer to drive.

This will be a very long day, possibly very cold, lots of elevation, possibly snow and ice... you must be well prepared and have proven experience to make it on this event.
