The Cherokee Trail circles Stone Mountain. It is a nice, wooded trail which passes a grist mill, a covered bridge, and offers lots of lake views. We'll hike approximately 5.5 miles with limited rest breaks. We will not climb the mountain.
Note: Weekend mornings at Stone Mountain are very busy. Allow plenty of time to enter the park and find a parking space.
|How to Get There:|
Directions: To the main entrance (east gate) - From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile – stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We’ll meet behind Confederate Hall near the walk up trail.
Many people prefer to enter the west gate from Stone Mountain Village. If you do so, after driving through the gate, turn right and the walk-up parking lot will only be a few hundred yards away, on the left.
