This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Blood Mountain is the highest point on the Appalachian Trail in Georgia  We will begin our hike at the parking lot at Lake Winfield Scott, hike Jarrard Gap Trail for approx. 2 miles, connect with the AT, travel the Freeman Trail (a very rocky trail just under two miles in length), ascend to top of Blood Mountain and then travel back to our vehicles (just under three miles back) utilizing the Slaughter Creek Trail.   I have been in that area on Slaughter Creek and the Freeman Trail BUT I have never attempted to summit Blood Mountain.  (I have designated hike as exploratory) - all climbs will be slow and easy - pace will pick up a bit on level or downhills.

This will be a beautiful hike, lots of leaves on the ground will cover roots and stumps (tripping hazards) so pace will be moderate (not super fast).  Hike will be about 10 miles - we will take a few quick water breaks and then an extended break at the top of Blood Mountain (20 min.) - pack lunch or snacks. Would should arrive at top of Blood Mountain before 1:00 p.m.

Approx time on the trails 4 1/2 hours

Time or mileage may be slightly under/over
