Itinerary:
Relax, read the morning paper, go to church; whatever - then join me in this little known jewel near Atlanta, close to Cartersville, Red Top Mountain State Park. At the urging of a good friend, and reassurance that dogs are allowed in this park-I have added dogs allowed to the description. -dont want more than six total dogs on event if possible. More could be hard to handle for all concerned.

To clarify,it has been pointed out by a couple of people on the event, that it starts at 11am and carpool departure at 11:15am. To me the event always starts with meeting folks at the carpool, signing waiver for those meeting there. The actual hike and waiver signing for those 'meeting at event', will probably be noon-12:30 before the hike actually starts.

This is my return journey to AOC and sharing the outdoors with friends and others I've done so much in the past several years-except last year-say no more. It became obvious to me, that my hiking muscles have suffered in being away from hiking last year; as in a recent checkout hike with good friends from AOC, I had a little harder time than I would have imagined; and need for now to stick with shorter less difficult hikes until totally reformed.

All that aside, this is a relatively easy 3 mile hike, excursion to a nice little park with wildflowers, interpretive signs, a pretty little overlook; then eventually after climbing several hundred feet on this gently inclined uphill trail, we end up at a great park office at the top and a fantastic overlook a bit further up, of the Lake Allatoona Dam and if we are blessed with it, see some Eastern Bluebirds that come from local nesting sites I've seen many times at the top of this hill around the DAM overlook.

Join me in my rekindling of the hiking experience in all its glory; at this great little hiking trail for a touch of nature before getting back to your lives and details thereof, in the later afternoon.

Be advised, I am not currently, or have I ever been a racer on trails with speed goals to prove. I like to take it slow to abundantly enjoy the sights and sounds of nature and share with others-so if you're in a race to get to the top first please do it; but you'll not be in tune with me or the group I wish to join me this day.

Required Items to Bring:
One liter or quart of water, trail snack to sustain you and comfortable supportive shoes with grippies of some sort on bottom to negotiate some rock playing, further up trail, if so desired.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
camera if you are a camera fool, as I often am, for the trip leader to beg after the trip to send and share with all joining me, on what I pray will be glorious day.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:From the CCT park and ride at Chastain Road, we travel north on I-75 about 14 miles to the exit for Red Top Mtn. State Park. At the top of the exit we turn left, away from Red Top Mtn. to Hwy.41. turning right and travel about 1 1/2 miles to an obscure little sharp right turn to the road a short distance down hill, to a left turn and a couple miles to the park.
Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):30Mile(s)
Carpool Departure Time: 11:15 am
Carpool Location:   Log in for location
Carpool Directions:   Log in for directions
Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $12.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
Thats it! I just urge you to join me in this great little, largely unknown park, that offers so much beauty, and so close to Atlanta. I dont believe this park has a fee anymore, but I'll check it out and add it to the description if there is a 2 - 3 dollar fee per car.
* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.

Cost Includes:gas money to your drivers

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:   Please review the AOC cancellation policy.
*Note: as per usual, remove yourself from the hike if you cant make it for the many reasons that commonly come up in life, unexpected work commitments, sickness of yourself or loved ones. I will leave at exactly 11:15am to not inconvenience the larger needs of the group. If you are lost and going to be slighlty late you may call me on my cell phone at (404) 242-2743, and I will gladly accomodate you.
