Itinerary:

The 11,000 acre Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area is home to Jones Gap and Caesars Head state parks in northern South Carolina which are linked through a series of interconnected trails. Our 17-mile hike will include a beautiful walk along the Middle Saluda River with stops to see three major waterfalls - Rainbow Falls, Jones Gap Falls, and Raven Cliff Falls.

We will begin our hike at Jones Gap State Park following the Middle Saluda River on the 5-mile Jones Gap Trail. Along the way, we will take a right and hike up the Rainbow Falls Trail (3 miles roundtrip) to see our first major waterfall and then return back to the Jones Gap Trail to see Jones Gap Falls. We will continue along the Jones Gap Trail until we reach Ceasars Head State Park where we will hike about 4 miles to Raven Cliff Falls and back. Finally, we will return to our cars following Jones Gap Trail again (approx 5 miles).

This is NOT a beginners hike, so please be sure you are in good physical condition. The pace will be on the faster side of moderate (2.5-3.0 mph), but we will take a break for lunch as well as stop to take photos along the way.
