Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Join us in hiking at Red Top Mountain. We will hike the Homestead trail and wrap it up with the Iron Hill trail. This hike is listed as exploratory because your leader has not hiked these trails. They are somewhat popular in the club and I'm sure there will be those familiar to help out along the way.

We will meet at the visitor center at 10am and start our hike promptly. The pace will be moderate, but we will not be in a race, we'll stop to take in the areas ' beauty and enjoy our day. It is possible that we may go over 4hrs depending on the group.

Homestead Trail

This trail begins at the Visitor Center and is of moderate difficulty. The first section of the trail is a 1 mile section that crosses Lodge Road. Once across the road the trail forms a 3 ½ mile loop that follows along the shores of Lake Allatoona for about half of its length. Overall this trail will take you through forest, across fields, and along the shores of the lake. You will also pass by the chimney of an old homestead home. This hike offers the widest diversity and nicest scenery of all the trails in Red Top

Iron Hill biking and hiking trail

This shared used trail is a ~ 4 mile loop. It passes along the shore of the lake and passes what was once an iron ore mining community.

The hike may be more than the allotted time with travel between trails. Please allow yourself extra time just in case the estimate is off.
