Itinerary:

Please join our hiking trip at Amicalola Falls including the Hike Inn Loop trail and a climb up the stairs to the top of the falls.

Our trip was originally planned to go to Springer Mountain. But the only time window with good weather this weekend is Saturday morning, so we change our plan to finish our trip much earlier.

The hike is over 12 miles at a brisk pace. We will have a few short breaks for water and photos. We'll start from the Visitor Center and take the Appalachian Approach Trail to the base of the falls, then climb up stairs to the top of the falls. There are many beautiful views along this climb. At the top of the falls, we'll follow the AT Approach Trail and Hike Inn Connecting Trail to Len Foote Hike Inn for a break. We'll then follow Hike Inn trail and the same stairs to get back to our cars.

There may be, no guarantee though, some left over foods like cookies, cakes, fruits, etc. in Hike Inn dining room, please leave some tips in their box if you eat them.

The event duration does NOT include our travelling/ driving time. If you choose to meet at the event, please arrive 10 minutes before our starting time. Our duration time is an estimate, and we need to have some flexibility.

This event is physically challenging and rewarding! You can fully enjoy it IF AND ONLY IF you have good fitness and endurance. Please only register if you are comfortable hiking long distance at a brisk pace in the real mountain environments, and have recent D5 experience.

If your experience is not from the club, please include it in a note when you register. TL reserves the right to remove registrants without sufficient track record for the safety of everyone. We encourage our members to actively participate with joyful experience, and most importantly to stay healthy and safe at the end of our trip!


Required Items to Bring:

 

Clean shoes, bag for changed shoes, towel to sit on (if you're in other member’s car). Respect your carpool driver, only enter with clean shoes. Remove all trash and your belongings.

Cash for carpool driver.

$5 Cash for park entrance fee if you're driver and don't have annual pass.

Layers of clothing suitable for the season.

Good hiking boots/shoes.

Water (Hike Inn can refill water), snacks.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

North on Georgia 400 past the outlet Mall to GA-53. Turn left on GA- 53, and then a slight right on GA-183. Stay on GA-183 for about 10 miles. Turn slight right to GA-52 E. Follow GA-52 E for 1.5 miles until the park entrance on the left. We will meet at the Visitor Center parking lot near the entrance!

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $36.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

1. This event may be cancelled and rescheduled if weather conditions are not satisfactory for an enjoyable outing.
