Itinerary:

The Chattahoochee National Forest encompasses nearly 876,000 acres, with over 850 miles of recreation trails, join us for a short part of this special forest and the scenery it has to offer!

We start the trail in Vogel State Park leaving the park and into the Chattahoochee National Forest, after a short climb we descend down into the valley and back out again until we reach the Duncan Ridge Trail, making a left on the Duncan ridge trail we descend into Wolf Pen Gap. After a brief rest, we start the climb up Slaughter Mountain before descending back into Vogel State park where we initially started.

There is a lot of ascent on this hike, please only sign up if you are fit enough to complete a hike of this distance and elevation gain. 

If you have not recently completed a D5 or D6 event with the AOC we will contact you to see if this event is appropriate for you. 

We will allow up to 2 well behaved dogs on this hike. Please make sure they are able to complete this distance. 


Required Items to Bring:
  • Emergency rain gear (even if chance of rain is minimal)
  • Water or Sports drink, at least 3 liters
  • Enough food to keep your energy level up on a 6 or 7 hour hike
  • Hiking boots or shoes
  • Clothing appropriate for the weather

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Take GA 400/US 19 north to Dahlonega.  We will make a pit stop in Dahlonega at the McDonald's there.  It will be on your left on US 19.  Then take US 19 north to where it joins US 129 at Turners Corner. Continue north on US 19/129 for 11 miles to Vogel State Park.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $50.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
