Itinerary:
I missed the 2008 date so I'm really excited to see a late fall, 2009 date available. HOWEVER, it is first come - first served, so the AOC is making every attempt to secure our place on the calendar.

Gorilla Haven has not been designed to be open to the public, but owners, Steuart and Jane Dewar, have offered to provide a rare, personal tour. This tour is to raise funds for the project, as well as offer a unique opportunity to our neighbors and friends.

 

What You'll See: Walking tour will include the GH facility, including gorilla villas, habitat, veterinary hospital, food preparation room, administration, group building, and get a first hand look at this one-of-a-kind, AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) certified safe haven for zoo gorillas. If the gorilla residents, Joe and Oliver, decide they're interested, you'll see them too, but that will be up to them, since their welfare is our main concern. In truth, they have always put on a good "show" for those on tours, but neither can we unconditionally guarantee that they will meet everyone's expectations of visibility.

 

What to Expect: The tour will be rain or shine; it is on mountainous terrain and there is some climbing and walking on graveled roads involved, so dress accordingly. GH souvenirs will be available for sale and complimentary soft drinks will be provided.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $64.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
Important information for paid events in which payment is managed through the AOC:

     - Payment must be received by the payment due date and prior to participation in the event.

     - Some paid events require a minimum number of registered participants. If that number is not met, the event will be canceled and refunds will be issued to those who have already paid.

     - Third-party vendors often require damage deposits. Each registrant agrees to be liable for and required to reimburse the Atlanta Outdoor Club for any withheld deposits due to the actions of or damages caused by that registrant.

     - No partial payments. All registrants must pay the posted Member Cost regardless of any agreement you may have with any party involved in the event.

     - Read the event description carefully for additional information, and contact the trip leader(s) with any questions.

  • If you cancel on or before April 10th, full payment is refundable less a $5 administrative fee.
  • No refund after April 10th unless someone replaces you and pays in full, then you will receive a full refund less $5 administrative fee.
