Ready for our third hike of the day on this special Mexican holiday?  There are 5 hikes available today in the series.  Join us on one of them, two of them, or even all of them, if you like!  Wear a sombrero  and get into the spirit of the day!  We'll take a break after this hike to have a Mexican lunch at Tijuana Joe's on Roswell Road (Sandy Springs). Lunch will take place around 2 pm.  Join us!

This third hike of the day will be in a beautiful woodsy enclave right off of Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.  A bath house has been built at the entrance, and parking is easy, as this trailhead shares the lot with the government building on Roswell Road. This is the perfect hike for beginners who can't handle speed, distance, or elevation changes yet.   There is some slight rolling terrain, but we'll go at an easy pace, so it won't be difficult. This Sandy Springs location is a hidden treasure right smack in the middle of a bustling neighborhood off of Roswell Road.  We'll begin the hike at 1 pm, but arrive 10 minutes early to use the bathroom and meet the other folks on the hike.

This trail is especially beautiful in the spring time, with lush trees and babbling brooks.

This is an excellent hike for folks who want to get into hiking for the first time, who want to simply get out and enjoy the beauty of nature and breathe some fresh air without exerting themselves, or who want to begin hiking again after an injury. The trail is soft and free of roots and rocks. Veteran hikers are certainly welcome to join us, but please don't complain about the slow speed!

There are several little trails at Big Tree Preserve, including  (1) the Backcountry Trail; (2) the Spring Hollow Trial; and (3) the Jackson Overlook Trail. All of these trails are for foot travel only and are easy to walk with no steep grades.  No runners or bikers allowed!

After this hike, all are invited to join us for a festive Cinco de Mayo celebration lunch at Tijuana Joe's, just 1/2 mile down Roswell Road from the parking lot.
