Itinerary:

We are nearing the summer solstice, and the days are growing longer. Let's explore Piedmont Park and the Eastside Atlanta Beltline in the late afternoon breeze. Afterwards, please feel free to join your Trip Leaders for a free performance in the park by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

We will leave promptly at 5:00 p.m. from the large parking lot behind Park Tavern, at the corner of Monroe Drive and 10th Street. Please arrive by 4:45 for introductions and overview. You may choose to park in this lot, or take your chances on a side street. Please pay attention to signs; you do NOT want a parking ticket around here. Please give yourself plenty of time to get here and park safely. If you take MARTA to the park, the closest station is Arts Center. Lyft is the Woodruff Arts Center's official ride share partner.

We will enter the park and drop off our picnic blankets and baskets, leaving one or two volunteers to guard our base camp on Oak Hill. The rest of us will then take off on an urban trek to relish the sights and sounds of Piedmont Park. We will cut through the "active oval" of the park, cross Clara Meer lake, skirt the meadow and then head down onto the Wetlands Trail. We will check out Peregrine Point and a waterfall. After swinging by base camp to switch out volunteers, we will hop onto the future Beltline section which will lead us over to the paved Eastside Trail.  We will log a few miles on the Eastside Trail, enjoying the outdoor art exhibits along the way. Then we'll retrace our route and reenter Piedmont Park on the 10th Street side. We'll take a different way through the park to return to our base camp on Oak Hill.

After the end of the event, your Trip Leaders plan to enjoy some food and drink at base camp, as we experience the symphony performance which begins at 7:30 pm.

Please bring a headlamp or small flashlight especially if you are staying for the show.

The total distance will be approximately 7 miles.
