We'll stick to the trails this time! (An iinside not-so-funny joke.)

Come join us for a morning at Sope Creek and Cochran Shoals! In order to avoid a crowded parking lot, we'll start the hike from Sope Creek Elementary School, about 1/4 mile down Papermill Road from the Sope Creek parking lot. 3320 Papermill Road, Marietta, GA. It's a large parking lot, and it's free!

When you drive into the entrance, circle the small lot on the right and go ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE END OF THE LARGE LOT on the left. We will NOT be walking to the Sope Creek parking lot, so if you park there, you'll miss the hike! Please arrive by 8:50 am so that we can make introductions, take a group picture, and start the hike on time.

We'll hike for about 2.5 hours, getting in around 7 miles. Some of the trails are hilly and rocky, so at our steady, "healthy" pace, this hike will be challenging for true beginning hikers. However, if you've done some hard D2 hikes and can handle the distance, this should be a good hike for you!

If you bring your dog, it should be able to keep up with the group and interact well with other dogs and people. The Chattahoochee NRA requires that owners keep their dogs on a leash and clean up after their pets on the trails. Please be willing to keep your dog on leash out of consideration to other hikers, because it's the law and because the reputation of the AOC is damaged when members break the leash law.

Limit of 3 dogs, please!

The Sope Creek Elementary School parking lot is on Papermill Road, about 1/4 mile from Sope Creek parking lot. If you're coming from Johnson Ferry Road, so about 1/2 mile past the Sope Creek bridge, to Sope Creek Elementary School on your left. If you're coming from I-75 on Papermill, it will be on your right at the traffic light at Shadowlawn Road. When you turn into the school parking lot, go to the large lot on your left and park all the way at the end.

No parking fee!

No bathrooms, though our plan will be to take a bathroom break halfway through the hike at the Columns Drive parking lot.
