Itinerary:

Join us as we paddle the "Big Savannah" section of the Etowah river.

This section of river lies between the take out of the Tunnel section and the beginiing iof the Dawson Forest section. It is a fairly mellow section, only requiring 60 cfs to navigate comfortably.

Owing to its rich bottomlands, the Etowah’s Big Savannah was among the first area’s of Dawson County that was settled. As a result, as the Etowah winds through this valley, it is flanked by history at seemingly every turn. The shoals common up stream give way to slower moving water and the scenery shifts from forest to field. For all its peaceful scenery, the valley may be best known as one of the birthplaces of stock car racing. (http://www.etowahwatertrail.org/wp- includes/pdf/guides/tunneling-for-gold- guide.pdf).

We will begin our day by meeting at The Outside World outfitters in Dawsonville (471 Quill Dr.
Dawsonville, GA 30534). We will then drive to the put in and set up a shuttle down river, approximately 8 river miles.

This section of the Etowah is very scenic, and an easy paddle when the river is running at 60 cfs or more. Anything below that does create some very shallow areas, so the paddle will be somewhat dependent on the flow.

We will paddle approximately half way and then look for a lunch spot.

This is a BYOB event - you must have your own kayak/canoe
