Itinerary:

Join us for one of our favorite annual hikes for a few rollicking miles along the Conasauga River in the scenic Cohutta Wilderness near Cisco, Georgia.  The hike is a fairly easy 3 miles each way with several river crossings and a 2-hour lunch/play stop atop some large, flat rocks in the middle of the river.  In over a dozen visits spanning the past 9 years, we’ve never encountered anyone using this area.

After lunch, you are free to just lay on a rock and enjoy a book or to leave your gear and walk upstream in the river, rock-hopping, exploring and enjoying the numerous pools and waterchute butt-slides.

None of the crossings are dangerous, but water in some places can be nearly waist deep depending on recent rainfall.  Some areas are slippery, so a sturdy hiking stick is recommended though non-essential.

After the hike we'll stop for dinner at Little Rome in Chatsworth.   It's good, home-made Italian food - large portions and low prices.

Note:

Wear appropriate shoes and clothing so that you can get wet and keep going.  We will not be stopping at crossings to change clothes or shoes.  Many people do this hike in a bathing suit and river shoes or old sneakers.
