This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Join us as we paddle the "Back Waters of Allatoona" section of the Etowah river, led by Allison Carter, who is currently working toward becoming a Trip Leader. It will undoubtedly be an awesome paddle if the weather holds out.

This section of river terminates into Lake Allatonna. It can be paddles all time of the year due to consistent depth along most of the river. It will however slow down the closer it gets to Allatoona.

A river dies here. Allatoona Dam, some 25 miles downstream from the launch site, transforms the freeflowing Etowah into expansive Lake Allatoona which has a life of its own. For about six miles, a noticeable current persists; that current ceases altogether at Shoal Creek. However, the backwaters of Allatoona provide access to some unique natural and historic features, including the wetlands at the mouth of Jug Creek and Donalson Furnace on Shoal Creek. (Etowahwatertrail)

We will paddle approximately half way and then look for a lunch spot.

We will launch from Boling Mill Park and take out at Fields Landing - see below for details.

Those interested in going out for a bite after at a local place are welcome to join.

This is a BYOB event - you must have your own kayak/canoe

$5 or a pass to park

**** Original post stated we were taking out at Knox Bridge, the army corp of engineers has closed Knox Bridge so we will be taking out at Fields Landing. A big Thank You to Kelly Burke for the update.
