Itinerary:
Join us for an enjoyable and relaxing kayaking trip down our own Chattahoochee River.  Up The River Outfitters will provide everything we need to do this. Individual (one person) kayaks will be reserved of which you can chose from sit-on-top or sit-in versions. This also includes a PFD, paddle, and shuttle. When signing up for this event indicate your kayak preference in the comment section: "sit-in", "sit-on-top", or "no preference" (Kayak preference is not guaranteed).

We will be shuttled by UTR from their location to Settles Bridge where we begin our journey.  We will take our time and enjoy the river...stopping at "Picnic Rock" about midway for a lunch break. It should take approx 3 1/2 to 4 hrs to reach Abbotts Bridge where we will be picked up by UTR and shuttled back to their location where we all parked.

First time kayakers should be aware that there will not be extensive instruction prior to going down the river. However this is about as easy as river kayaking gets with just two or three sections of Class I "rapids"...they make the trip a little more exciting but not anything to be greatly concerned about. So any beginner should handle it just fine.

More about this stretch of the river: This is fairly calm water for the most part, and the depth is mostly 2-3 feet. This is a river that will flow regardless so no worries about low level, at least south of Buford Dam where we will be. If you are concerned about water releases, those occur normally after 4pm and later on weekends. The outfitter learns the time each day from the US Corp of Engineers., but we should be done before then and even if not, it would not make the paddling that much more difficult going downstream on this relatively tame stretch of river.

Of course myself and other experienced persons will show you the basics if you just ask. There is a possibility, however small, that your craft will tip over so your ability to swim is a must. If you are unsure about your suitability for this trip please email or call the trip leaders prior to signing up.

Do not bring
  • Glass
  • Large or Styrofoam Coolers
  • Radios
  • Alcoholic Beverages
  • By the way you can bring your digital camera but just make sure you have a good waterproof container or bag for it...also one that would float in the unlikely possibility that it ended up in the water.  A small tupperware container works well for this.
