Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Join me in hiking to the summit of Georgia's third highest peak.  Dick's Knob at 4600', and as a bonus, we'll make a short side excursion to summit Little Bald Mountain 5040' just across the state line in North Carolina.

We will start at the trail parking at the Tate Branch Campcround in northeast Georgia.  Beginning by following a rough unmaintained trail that that goes northeast ascending Tate Branch Creek.  As this trail runs out, we will continue off trail climbing very steeply to the ridgline at Steeltrap Gap.  From here, we will turn to the north and follow a rough path along the ridgeline to the summit of Dick's Knob.  After a round of high fives, we'll continue along the ridgeline for about another 3/4 mile and 500 feet of elevation gain to the summit of Little Bald Mountain.  We will take a lunch break here before returning to the cars the way way we came.

This hike will be about 9-10 miles in length and have about 3000 feet in elevation gain with some very steep sections.  Additionally, it will be mostly off trail.  That will make it a very difficult day if you are not prepared.

I've done the climb of Dick's knob twice before, but never made the trip to Little Bald.  But I'll have a GPS and map and it shouldn't be a problem to add on the additional summit.  Its an exploratory trip after all.
