Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue. This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary. | |||||||

- I need to thank Myra Kincaid for giving me information on this trip. About the Swamp: "Visiting the Okefenokee Swamp Park instantly transports you into a prehistoric environment, populated by living dinosaurs – our alligators, as well as unique species of carnivorous plants, rare birds and the opportunity to learn more about the ancient Okefenokee cultures" Click Here Here is an NYTimes article about canoeing into Okefenokee click here Itinerary: This is a 3 days canoeing trip into Okefenokee Swamp. We start driving on the evening of Thursday 31st. We will stay the night at a campsite near the swamp (TBD). Friday early morning we will pick up our canoes at Suwannee Canal Recreation Area (Okefenokee Adventures) and start paddling. After 12 miles paddling, we camp at Round Top shelter for the night. The next day we will paddle 15 miles and settle down for the night at Monkey Lake campsite. For the last day, we paddle out 8 miles and finish where we started. Then get into our cars and drive back to Atlanta. We may stop to grab a bite on our way back (this will be group decision).
