Itinerary:

We will leave the carpool at Mansell Rd. at 9:30 AM.  The later start time is due to the probability of icy road conditions on Saturday morning.
We should arrive at the trail head at Dockery Lake by 11:00. Dockery Lake Trail is one of the prettiest approach trails to the AT. After 3.4 miles it intersects the AT at Miller Gap where we will hang a left and go a little over a 1 1/2 mile  to Preaching Rock. We''ll eat lunch, rest and take photos of the great views from the Rock. Then retrace our path back to the cars. A few years ago our friend, Larry was hiking the Dockery Lake Trail and saw a beautiful Gray Wolf.  Wolves are very shy so we need to have a quiet hike if we hope to see one. We will go at a moderate pace (2 - 2.5) so that we can enjoy the beauty of the hike.

This is on the borderline of being a D5.  Please make sure that you can hike in the mountains with about 2000' elevation gain for 4-5 hours, in winter weather.

Times are approximate.

The Trip Leaders would like to stop in Dahlonega on our way back, and stroll amidst the Christmas lights and live music.  Hopefully everyone will like to do this as well.  This will add another hour to the day.

I have confirmed that the road from Hwy 60 to Dockery Lake is open.

Thanks to past trip event description by Larry!
