Itinerary:
Want a nice, relaxing day under the sun and an easy float down a river? Neither do we! What we're looking for is a FUN ride in the sun. Relaxation is overrated, so we're going whitewater kayaking, and we're doing it close to home.

The Outside World (just up GA400, in Dawsonville) provides kayaking courses and an indoor "play pool" with a wave/river simulator. They'll provide the kayaks, helmets, PFDs and other gear.

Our day will start out at the store where we'll either carpool to Lake Lanier or jump in the play pool.

Once in the water (at either location) the ACA (Amercian Canoe Association) certified instructors at The Outside World will give us basic kayaking instruction for about 2-3 hours. This basic instruction will include (but is not limited to) wet exits, roll intro, different types of strokes, and basic manuvering.

After learning the basics, we'll pack up and head to the Cartecay or an equivalent river (dependent on water levels) for some real-world, whitewater fun. Here we'll put the skills we've just learned to the test in addition to learning how to surf, read the river, and play in the rapids. The river section is about 4 miles long and will take us between 3 and 4 hours to complete.

Between sessions we'll break for lunch. It will NOT be provided as part of the trip, so you'll have to brown bag it.

We've rated this event as a D4 because, while it is an introdutory trip, it does require a certain level of experience and physical conditioning. To participate in this event you MUST be a strong swimmer (able to tread water easily for 5 minutes), be able to tolerate being upside down while underwater, and have some kind of paddling experience (canoe, kayak, rafting, sit-on-top, etc).
