Itinerary: | |||||||
easy to moderate bushwhacking 7 mile hiking adventure After we travel up to Clayton and stop briefly at McDonalds to coordinate (around 10:45am), we will then go up Hwy.441 north about ¼ of a mile to the right hand turn that goes to Warwoman Road and travel to our trailhead. The hike follows an easy grade, then turns into some bushwacking through high weeds and grasses, then to a wide but shallow crossing of Reed Creek at the Reed Creek bottoms. After some more bushwacking (about 50 feet worth through more tall flora, the trail begins to follow right alongside the Chatooga River and ends at a sandy beach area across from lower Licklog Falls across the river on the South Carolina side. There is a nice swimming hole there anyone who wants (and weather permitting-warmth and sunshine) is welcome to swim and/or swim across the river to the waterfall. Anyone who wishes can join in an inexpensive dining experience at Mama G’s Italian restaurant in Clayton afterwards.

Event Directions: | GA park and ride only from the Indian Trail park and ride lot we will travel about 12 miles to I-985, and travel on I-985 to Clayton where we will pick up Warwoman Road and take it until it ends at Highway 28, turn south and travel to the trailhead pullout next to the highway.
Notes: | |||||||
Are Dogs Permitted? No Will this event occur rain or shine? Not in heavy rain or thunderboomers This is not a very tough hike by fearless leader Bruce’s standards with only the tall weeds slapping in the face to cause anyone to curse my name; and that part of the hike is only 100 yards or so around Reed Creek. * We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.
